At Goldgenie, we have always taken a versatile approach to Gold and believe it can and should be used everywhere! Therefore, we are particularly impressed with scientists’ new discovery… A breakthrough has been made in robotic muscle engineering using onion skin which has been coated with gold.
The structure of the vegetable’s skin allows it to stretch and flex like a real human muscle and scientists have discovered that by painting it in Gold they can cause it to move! The conductive properties of Gold make it receptive to electrical currents and by applying different different voltages of electricity to the top and bottom, the gold-covered onion can expand and contract just like a real muscle.
The team behind the discovery at National Taiwan University are still working on achieving the same technique with lower voltages. If they can achieve this and make the onion skin more durable and water-resistant, this will be a huge breakthrough in medical engineering and a viable option for those who need muscle replacement.
While the value of gold is universally acknowledged, we must never underestimate the value of common vegetables in our kitchen!
