Goldgenie are proud to have presented a 24K Gold iPhone 6 to Ajak Deng at the renowned IMG modelling agency in New York. The company wanted to reward the Sudanese-Australian model for the work she is doing to diversify international ideals of beauty and challenge racism in the fashion industry.
Ajak Deng is to be admired for several reasons beyond her stunning beauty and natural elegance. A regular figure on the runways of New York, London, Paris and Milan, she is one Australia’s hottest exports into the international Fashion arena. Her resumé boasts names such as Fendi, Dolce & Gabbana, Karl Lagerfeld, Lanvin, Hermès, as well as walking in the famous Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in 2008 and 2009.
She was also featured on the cover of one of the four “All Black” issues of Vogue Italia, aligning her with Naomi Campbell, Jourdan Dunn and Liya Kebede who graced the covers of the other three. While you cannot reach higher than the levels Ajak Deng has rocketed to in the modeling world, she is not one to stare down from her pedestal basking in the idle glow of idolization.
She has remained grounded and uses her success and fame to help others and highlight issues of racism in the Fashion industry. She was born in the Sudan in 1989 and when the country became torn with civil unrest in 2003, she and her family had to flee to a refugee camp in Kenya, where her mother sadly lost her life to Malaria. The young Ajak then had to mother her 6 month-old baby sister, which must have nurtured the strength, selflessness and awareness of others that she still exhibits today. In 2005, Ajak’s family had the opportunity to immigrate to Australia. It was her teacher in her final year at school who suggested that Ajak try out modeling. She was snapped up by an agency straight away and despite the hectic schedule the highest stratosphere of the fashion industry demands a top model to keep, she has still managed to continue her formal education through online classes in Law in preparation for Law School.
Having grown up between countries in the shoes of a refugee, an immigrant schoolgirl and now as a top international model, Ajak clearly has her eyes on the greater picture and has not forgotten those less fortunate than her. She is regularly involved in fundraising initiatives for United Colors of Fashion, A New York based non-profit fashion philanthropy organization, who provide fashion-focused Education and opportunities to under-resourced youth in New York and Ajak regularly attends their events to raise funds for children infected and affected by HIV in South Africa. The model is also known for her outspoken views on racism in the fashion industry. She is not afraid to point out this elephant in the room, which most at her level gloss over from fear for their career future.
Ajak Deng exudes the grace and courage that defines true nobility and Goldgenie thought it apt to mark her success and strength with a crown laser stamped on the back of a 24K Gold iPhone 6. Laban Roomes said in admiration, “Ajak teaches us that one can achieve success no matter what adversities life throws in their way and no matter how slim the chances that the status quo dictates are. She serves as the perfect role model for everyone and encourages us to reach for the stars and once your there, share the light with everyone below.”
